So that you can visually see some things that need to be done? It should be fine for visual clutter depending on the organization and people's creativity. It could bring life and color to it. Just an idea, I have no idea how hard or easy it could be.

I like this, I plan on supporting custom fields down the road (so people can add attachments, dates, etc...) similar to Trello and I can definitely look into support this type of field
